Comprehensive "Real World" 0Day Malware Blocking Test Published
2009-12-17
During the last three months, our lab has been working on exhaustive testing to answer the question how effective Internet Security Suites are performing in the "real world". To confront today's threats, the products utilize many different protection layers, such as URL filtering, web reputation services, exploit blocking, "in-the-cloud" scanning as well as behavior-based protection mechanisms. All these layers were carefully tested, featuring both "static" and "dynamic" detection mechanisms. In total, we have performed 600 tests using active malware and 400 tests using clean files for all of the 12 products in this review -- that's 12,000 test cases! The results can be found in various publications, e.g. CHIP (Germany), PC Magazine and Dark Reading.
Heise Download Directory: Checked with 40 virus scanners
2009-12-11
AV-Test increases the security of downloads: All files available at the German "Heise Software-Verzeichnis" (Software Directory) have to pass an exhaustive test with currently 40 virus scanners. Only files which are confirmed virus-free, or when detections turned out to be false alarms, are published at the download servers. To complete this extensive task, the VTEST multi-scanner system, which was developed by AV-Test, is used. This system currently scans about 3.5 mio samples for virus infections every day.
